Bedayaa Launches Road Codes
In late July, the Egyptian LGBTQ+ organization Bedayaa unveiled its latest online interactive platform, “Road Codes.” The site, in Arabic and English, allows LGBTQ-identifying Egyptians to mark locations around the country where they have been arrested by police or harassed and assaulted in public spheres.
Road Codes is an electronic platform that marks locations where LGBTIQ+ community in Egypt face arrest incidents by the police, or physical and verbal abuse in public spheres. Road codes provides reporting section to report arrest and violence incidents; the data of this platform is being collected anonymously and subsequently uploaded as hot spots on the map to reference the local violence trends. The aim of this platform is to make this data of useful for queer individuals in Egypt so they can avoid dangerous spots in different cities, or apply precautionary measures while visiting these spots. This platform also provides valuable legal resources and information, in addition to links and data for legal and health support access. Road codes is one of Bedayaa Organization’s platforms.
